“There is no safe level of pesticides, only those with an acceptable level of risk”. – The EPA
I’m disgusted. I’ve been disgusted for some time now with what has transpired with corporations and our government agencies. And every time I hear more, see more, learn more, my disgust just keeps getting worse and worse.
So…did you know? There is currently NO toxicity information available for over 75% of the 80,000 chemicals that appear in our every day products. From the food we eat to nearly everything we use on a daily basis (including water), these toxins are in everything. Best part…we have not one bit of evidence proving their safety.
After watching the trailer for “Acceptable Levels?” (a new documentary in the making), I remembered…all the plastic teething rings I encouraged my kids to chew on. All the make-up I would slather on my face. Every mousse, gel and hair crème I would work into my curls. All the times of using harsh chemicals to clean the house. The carpet deodorizer I would sprinkle on the rug that my babies sat on. The fabric softener sheets and the overly pungent clothing detergent used load after load. I had no idea (at the time).
The silver lining…I do know now and I will never make the those mistakes again. We need to educate ourselves, ignorance isn’t bliss. The agencies that are supposed to “protect us” ARE NOT doing their jobs. The corporations and chemical companies are running a muck and WE are keeping them in business.
What can you do? Vote with your dollar. Demand CHANGE. Support good business and practice. Boycott that which serves no purpose and may potentially harm. The old saying goes…”hit em’ where it hurts – in their pocket”. Buy products that are safe from businesses whose objective is to produce safe products. So here’s a good business to support…Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps…for all you personal and cleaning care needs. From body wash to laundry detergent (everywhere except the dishwasher)…Dr. Bronner works like a charm.
Note…the film “Acceptable Levels?” is due to release this spring. Like them on FB so you can stay up to date.
