I do confess…I was a diet soda and aspartame junkie. Even worse, I made Jen a diet soda junkie. 3 packets of Equal in my coffee, 3 times a day…that’s 9 packets of aspartame, plus aspartame from the diet soda at lunch and dinner. I’m lucky to still be alive. I clearly recall thinking how aspartame was the way to go. You know to “not” gain weight. Yeah, ok! Boy was the wool pulled over my eyes.
Aspartame is made of methanol (aka wood alcohol/poison), which breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde in the body. The question you need to ask is…would you drink formaldehyde? I hope the answer is no.
PLEASE, read “FDA Lists 92 Symptoms from Nutrasweet (Aspartame) (including Death!)”. Then, watch the documentary “Sweet Misery” or spend 10 minutes on “Danger’s of Aspartame; What You Need to Know to Protect Your Health“. Back in the day, I experienced 34 of the related reactions listed and had no idea that Aspartame could be the reason why.
My 14 years of advertising experience has made one thing clear, advertising points out all the benefits and none of the negatives. The main objective is to drive sales. My measly 14 years of ad knowledge in a small rural area is nothing compared to big corporate psychology driven testing worth millions and billions in ad dollars that come back 10 fold. Good people, I say this…look at the crystal clear reality. You are being treated as sheep. Yes, I said it and I’ll say this too, WAKE UP! (All said in a very loving Capricorn way, of course). We want you to live, feel good, be happy and most of all, be healthy. Not all advertising is evil but the kind that will kill you most certainly is.
Use this filter…if one uses aspartame, the aspartame company makes money. If one does not feel well, the MD makes money, the healthcare provider makes money and the pharmaceutical company makes money. Who’s not making any money and is feeling like shit? YOU! Start tuning in to what is being done. It’s blasphemy.
My advice: Do NOT use aspartame. If you’re suffering from any type of illness or disease, get yourself off it NOW! Do NOT drink, eat, taste another sip. My grandmother who died from her third bout with cancer was also a daily aspartame user. Not once was she told to stay away from this poison. We later found out that aspartame will actually accelerate cancer growth. If we only knew then!
So, yes, I am pissed off and honestly you should be too. Fight back, stand up and together let’s make some real change. Because baby, mama ain’t no sheep!

Thanks for posting this.
I’d love to add my 2 cents to the mix if I may.
Aspartame is a horrible neurotoxin and damages synaptic nerve connections. Equal in the blue packet is aspartame. Aspartame is in many diet sodas. I know several people personally who have experienced serious health side-effects from aspartame. I’ve seen studies on this chemical and they are scary reads.
Sweet’n’low, the pink packets, is saccharin or sodium cyclamate, depending on the country you are in, both of which are dramatically safer. While I’m not for artifical sweetners, if you have to use one, Sweet’n’low is much safer choice. It is not heat stable though, so not to be used in baking, coffee should not be reheated after adding it.
Stevia, is an even better natural choice for sweetener replacement. Stevia plants contains several steviol glycosides that not only are excellent replacements for artificial sweeteners, but they also have a re-vitalizing effect on β-cells of pancreas and are beneficial to diabetics. You can special order softdrinks/sodas from japan that contain stevia, and stevia extract even comes in a white crystalline form in little white packets similar to other sweeteners.
That being said, in my book nothing beats a spoon of maple syrup or local honey! 🙂 Yum! Okay, maybe two or three spoon fulls…and oops guess i have to have a spoon full myself, my coffee can’t get all the sweet goodness without a little sample for the tongue. What can i say, i love them both, calories be damned. 🙂
Anyway, loving your blog! Thanks for posting so many great things.

Thanks Josh for your response. It’s amazing that aspartame is still legal given all the side effects and studies. We’re fans of coconut palm sugar and we most certainly agree – maple syrup and local (regional) honey is delightful.
