Recently, I had the pleasure of virtually meeting the founder of Body Compass Discovery. Like myself, Collette realized it was time to take hold of her health sometime back in her mid-twenties. In the process, she started to blog in hopes of helping others become the best version of themselves by sharing what had worked for her.
So, I asked Collette to share her Epsom salt and essential oil detox bath – a luxurious treat that’s relatively inexpensive and can be done in the comfort of your home. Personally, I can’t wait to get into the tub!

When was the last time you pampered yourself at home? One of the simplest ways to do so happens to be one of the most powerful. At the beginning of the year, we tend to go for optimal wellness by changing our intake. We flush out toxins with various cleanses and start an elimination diet to reset ourselves. Sound familiar? Another way to treat your body right is with a detoxifying bath soak.
We put our bodies through a lot, so make sure to take the time to recover from it all. To be in top health, we have to support our system so it can naturally rid itself of toxins. A detox bath is a perfect way to effectively do this and it can do wonders for your body, both mentally and physically. You can put one together with just a few simple ingredients.
Epsom salt alone is going to help detox you in a number of ways, a must to a good bath soak if you truly want to refresh your body. Putting Epsom salts in your hot bath can relieve cramping, ease sore muscles and alkalize the body. I personally do an Epsom salt bath about twice a week to help with muscle tension from a strenuous workout.
I get my essential oils from various places, both online and in local stores and love trying out new brands. For this soak, I picked out orange, eucalyptus and lavender specifically. Lavender is commonly used in bath products because it is a natural sleep aid, so I definitely consider that soothing. Orange essential oil can relax muscle spasms – mixed with the power of Epsom salts, this will definitely put you at ease. Eucalyptus helps to calm the mind and promote mental clarity – this does wonders for headaches. I also selected these three together because each one can reduce stress, depression and anxiety. Who doesn’t need more of that after a long hard day. They all work as a powerhouse for boosting your immune system as well. Both the Epsom salts and the oils serve as the perfect detoxifier to add to your next hot bath. Now, why the baking soda? The addition of this into the mix can exfoliate and soothe skin on the outside while balancing you out from the inside by absorbing what your body doesn’t need.
